We recently spoke to Russ Belin, vice president of Broadway in Atlanta, to hear more about If/Then and the upcoming season:
How excited is Broadway in Atlanta to have If/Then close out your 35th Anniversary Season?
If/Then is a new, wholly original musical from a powerhouse team of creators that includes Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winners. We pride ourselves in bringing the very best of Broadway to the Fox Theatre here in Atlanta, and with this show’s pedigree, it is a perfect choice to close this landmark season of Broadway in Atlanta.
How much anticipation is there for Atlanta native and former American Idol alum, Tamyra Gray to be returning to the city as one of the stars of the show?
It is always a pleasure to host some of Atlanta’s own as part of the shows we present. We feel immense pride seeing homegrown talent on stage at the Fabulous Fox Theatre.
Tell us about the show’s star Jackie Burns and how she does taking on the role originated by Idina Menzel:
Idina is a world class performer, and she was the lead in the show on Broadway and in a few markets when the tour started. We are thrilled to have Jackie Burns taking the lead in the production when it comes to Atlanta. I saw Jackie in the show in NYC, and her performance will blow you away! We couldn’t be happier to share this new, contemporary musical with Atlanta audiences.
If you read the comments on the show’s Facebook page, audiences are obsessed by this production…some seeing it multiple times. What is driving this phenomenon?
There is something about this show that really makes you think, and its causing people to come back to see the show more than once. Everyone makes choices in their lives, and I think most people wonder about the “what if?” This show puts that concept front and center and, besides having an amazing score with world class performances, you will leave the theater thinking about the “what if?” in your own life.
Your 2016/2017 season kicks off with The Illusionists, which will play at The Fox Theatre September 27 – October 2…tell us more about that show:
The Illusionists has been a sensation on Broadway in NYC for the last two seasons, and will definitely blow audiences away here in Atlanta. It has been over a decade since we have seen this quality of show featuring magic and illusions anywhere other than Las Vegas.
What else can audiences look forward to next season?
Next season really represents the best of Broadway that is going to be touring across the country. There is something for everyone in our upcoming season. The Bodyguard, which is premiering in the US as a national tour next season after its success on London’s West End, will star Grammy Award®-winner Debra Cox. Families can come together to shows like A Christmas Story, Annie, and The Little Mermaid. Broadway lovers will get a mix of favorites like The Phantom of the Opera, Riverdance, Mamma Mia! and Cabaret and new shows like Finding Neverland, Matilda, and An American in Paris. The list of reasons to see these shows could go on and on.
What info can you give readers about purchasing a Season Package and the “Season Options” that are also available?
A subscription is the only way to guarantee your seat for every show right now, and, in most cases, at a savings as opposed to waiting to buy individual tickets. You can buy subscriptions online at BroadwayInAtlanta.com or by calling our season subscriber hotline listed on our website. Plus, subscribers for the 16/17 season will be the first to be able to guarantee their seats for Hamilton when they renew their subscription for the 17/18 season early next year.
