Marc Maron has been performing stand-up comedy longer than most college kids have been alive.  He has always been “on the fringe” of the social conscious for his entire career.  But now, he is a front-runner in the newest entertainment medium: Podcasting.  His show is one of the top comedy podcasts and you can hear it for yourself at WTFpod.com.  I asked him some questions so that you too can know more about the man behind the movement.

What made you decide to do a podcast?

I had just been fired from a radio/internet job and they didn't take back my security pass key. So, my producer and I, Brendan McDonald, who was also fired, went in after hours and produced the first handful of WTFs. Just to try it out.

Why did you decide to call it WTF Podcast?

It just seemed to be the most asked question.

How long have you been doing it and how many downloads do you get?

We've been doing it since September 09. We get a couple hundred thousand downloads each week and we've had more than 5 million downloads since we launched.

How long have you been doing stand-up comedy?

How old are you? A long time.

What do you think has been the biggest boast to your comedy career
over the years?  How does the podcast boast compare?

Do you mean boost? If so, the podcast.

What would you like INsite readers to know about WTF Podcast?

It's the best thing I have done in my 22 year career--damn, I said how many years I have been doing it.
